Jude Mckenna

Jude studied fine art painting (BA hons) at art school, she has never shifted far from her primary focus and interest - landscape. Jude feels very connected with the earth beneath her feet, and her work provides an escape into a space which is sometimes beautiful, tranquil and calm, and latterly sometimes turbulent. They are not necessarily grounded in the reality of a place, but are often imagined landscapes, with an occasional tenuous link to a real place or memory.
She is attempting to draw you in to the abstracted space, to immerse you visually, so you may decide what you see and what that means to you. You may feel mists or stillness, changing weather, showers, breezes. There is often water, and always light. When Jude started painting, she has an idea of a season, a colour palette, a possible shape or form of the land or water. The build up of many layers of paint intuitively and freely at first.
The painting changes radically both in composition, colour and overall design. Hopefully, eventually, the refining process begins, which is a much slower process of contemplation and consideration as a painting nears completion.
